Human Body Proportions (Male and Female) by Ametystical Human Body Proportions (Male and Female) by Ametystical
For the man I used the so well known 8 heads canon. People usually use the same canon for females but since them are smaller than males I prefer to use 7 heads for drawing the woman.

That three strokes below the hands is where would be the finger tips, if the hands were straight.

MALE PROPORTIONS

1 - chin

2 - nipples

3 - navel and end of the elbows

4 - pubis and wrists (notice that the genital is below the line)

5 - middle of the thighs

6 - end of the knees

7 - end of the calves

8 - heels

FEMALE PROPORTIONS

1 - chin

2 - nipples

3 - waist and elbows in the middle of the "3 head"

4 - pubis and wrists in the middle of the "4 head"

5 - start of the knees

6 - end of the calves

7 - heels

Note: The waist is aligned with the elbows; the navel is a little below the waist. The pubis (pubic bone not the genital) is aligned with the wrists. The fingertips are aligned with the middle of the thigh.

Oh I actually didn't know the navel and the elbows were at the same heights in the male proportions, and in the female proportions the navel is a little lower o: Interesting

Actually both women and men ca have the navel at the same level the important is to keep the elbows in the same level of the waist and the navel a little lower than the waist. :)

Maybe it's not clear in the image since it's pretty sketchy but I tried to do the navel aligned with the end of the elbows.
