Flowery Winter by Ametystical Flowery Winter by Ametystical
This was an old sketch I've made with pencils. Since the shading didn't turned out good I've decided to make it into a digital colored drawing. I found the drawing kind of empty with dead trees so I made cherry blossom trees. I think they fit very well with her kimono and the white snow.

It was colored in Photoshop CS3 with the mouse and some brushes:

This is a very pretty picture, and the idea of it comes through instantly on seeing the thumbnail. Very pretty. Snow and cherry blossoms are a great combination, as are Far Eastern clothing fabrics, so well done on your choice of 'materials' within the picture.

Just one thing I'd say, though, is that I'd like to see more texture in each of these things. If you can find a way to make those blossoms seem touchably thin and papery, the way real ones are, and to make that snow look like you could crunch it under your feet, and make the viewer wish he or she was wearing the clothes of your subject, that'd ramp up the lasting impact of this picture.

Your subject placement is good. I don't know whether this character is a favourite of yours or very prominent in a fandom I'm not familiar with, but it's clear that somehow she *is* important. The trees frame her and, because they're behind her, almost seem to push her forward. They stand to one side like maids of honour. It's very cleverly and boldly done.

Thank you for sharing it!

this is my first attempt to write a critique.I'll write what cross in my mind.^^
okay, first of all,I really love the pattern of her kimono,it makes her kimono more beautiful.to me,it would be even nicer if you add "wrinkles" for her kimono to make it more real.
second,to me her face might need more attention.try to create expression to show her feeling,it could might be smiling to show she's happy or so.
the background is lovely.trees as additional feature makes it looks more harmony.
i think that's all,like I said,this is the 1st time for me to critique,hope this is useful.^^

I like the way you have drawn the tree branches peeking through the flowers-- very nice piece overall. :)

One thing I noticed though, was that the snow beneath the trees and the girl have no shadows, which is one reason the picture looks a little flat.

I really like the idea of your work, the connection of winter and spring. Also the brushes fit well into the whole painting, especially the ones on the kimono. They are not only pastedin but you added some shadwos. That looks very realistic. The sky is also well done, it gives an impression of an early spring day, maybe the first day without grey clouds in this spring. And it's great that the trees in the background are a bit lighter than those in the foreground.
What I would add is some shadows on the snow, from the trees and the girl. If you look at the sky it seems that the sunlight is coming from behind, so you could intensify this. Also you could add more structure to the ground by adding lights and shadows, so that it's not only a flat ground.
So all in all it is very nicely done and that was the only small thing I could criticize ;) Keep up the great work!

With your background you might want to shade in black and white and overlay color. I started doing my work this way and it has helped a lot. If you have no idea what im talking about this might help [link] [link] You could also color your traditional works this way.
